Replace 21 Sea Lynx Helicopters, Bundesmarine Buy 31 NH90 Sea Lion
avten.asia - The German Navy (Bundesmarine) has selected NH90 Sea Lion NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH), manufacturer HNIndustries to replace Westland Mk 88A SeaLynx anti-submarine warfare/anti-surface warfare (ASW/ASuW) helicopters. This news was announced by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) on Thursday (1/8/2019) ago.
Quoted from janes.com, sources from the Bundesmarine said that 31 NH90 helicopters would replace 21 Sea Lynx.
Previously selected the German-specific Sea Lion variant of the NH90 NFH to replace its Westland Mk 41 Sea King maritime helicopter. Now German will receive a Bundesmarine version from NFH French Caiman (known as the Multi-Role Frigate Helicopter / MRFH).
“This ensures a smooth transition and synergies in later operations,” the Bundeswehr said.
Based on Bundeswehr notes, the helicopter selection was made at the end of 2018 with the support of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).
Mentioned that the representative of the Inspector General of the German Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Joachim Rühle, approved this proposal on 29 July, and the new helicopters are to be delivered from 2025.
